Memory Groups

Our Scotland-wide network of Memory Groups use historical images, artefacts, film and audio from the Memories Scotland archive to aid reminiscence and prompt conversation during facilitated sessions.  In sharing their experiences and stories, group participants and facilitators report a range of positive outcomes.  This can include anything from connecting with others to renewed self-esteem and increased confidence.  And as well as being dementia-friendly, Memory Groups are inclusive and open to all - providing a forum for participants to make connections with the past, themselves and each other.

Different Memory Groups will, of course, have different interests and ways of working.  Some may focus on sport, others local and social history – and most some combination of the two.  All groups are based in accessible venues which include sports clubs, libraries, community centres and care homes.  For those unable to participate in-person, online alternatives will be provided where possible.  More information is available on our Frequently Asked Questions page.  You can find details of your local Memory Group by visiting our map or sending us an email.
