Cricket Today

Cricket Scotland, formerly known as the Scottish Cricket Union, is the governing body of the sport of cricket in Scotland. The body is based at the National Cricket Academy, Edinburgh.

The governing body was formed in 1908 as the Scottish Cricket Union, but re-structured in 2001 to Cricket Scotland. The work of Cricket Scotland includes the organisation and administration of national representative sides (senior and youth, men and women).

At the current time the Scotland National team is ranked 14th in the world at ODI level and 11th in the world at 20/20. The national team is coached by Grant Bradburn and captained by Kyle Coetzer.

The women’s team also had exceptional success in 2016 both in the ECB Leagues where they play as the Scottish Wildcats and on the international stage where they made it through to the World Cup Qualifier held in Sri Lanka in early 2017.

The major league competitions are the Western Union Premier Division and the CSL Eastern Premier Division. Last year saw the 50th anniversary of the Scottish Cup

Cricket Scotland employs 3 full-time and one part-time Cricket Development Officers covering the whole of Scotland. These Development officers work in association with local clubs, schools and associations in running coaching courses and coach education throughout the country.

The Scottish season runs from mid-April to early September, with almost all senior cricket being played on grass pitches. League cricket is mainly played on Saturdays whilst Sundays sees the majority of cup competitions and friendlies played. Mid-week cricket is also popular for friendly matches and 20/20 competitions.
