Shinty in schools

School Shinty was governed by the Schools Camanachd Association which was an independent body affiliated to the Camanachd Association. The Schools Camanachd Association was founded in 1937 to provide School based competition in shinty but went into abeyance in 2015.

The Camanachd Association now organises competitions for Schools across Scotland at primary and secondary levels. The sport of shinty has in the past few years worked hard at making the sport safe and enjoyable for beginners. The introduction of the beginner game of First Shinty affords beginners the opportunity to gradually develop their skills before progressing to the wooden stick game.

The Camanachd Association is also keen to ensure that strong links exist between Schools and Local Clubs and where there are no clubs work with new schools to look at the possibility of setting up new clubs to participate in shinty
